What is a yurt?

A yurt is an ancient, tent-like, circular dwelling structure that originated with the nomadic people of Asia. Our yurts were made in the US by Colorado Yurt Company and set up by a local contractor who added the kitchens, bathrooms and interior amenities.

What is “Glamping”?

Glamping is a marriage of two words “Glamor” and “Camping” and is a current travel trend for vacationers looking to experience lodging outside the box!

What amenities are featured in the yurt?

Each unit has comfortable sleeping quarters with all the amenities found at home, such as a full bathroom, a modest kitchen and of course WiFi! The dwellings are stocked with all the essentials including, but not limited to: bedding, towels, dishware, cutlery, pots & pans, cutting board, food storage containers, french press coffee maker, hand soap, broom and dustpan.

Do the yurts have heat?

Each unit, Yurt or Tiny House, has a high efficiency heat pump which offers both heat and A/C.

What is the maximum occupancy per unit?

  • 30 Foot Yurt: 6 person maximum

  • 24 Foot Yurts: 4 person maximum

  • Tiny Houses:2 person maximum

We are firm on the maximum occupancy policy due to interior amenities, septic design and property saturation.

Do you have a minimum night stay?

  • During our peak season on MDI, June till mid October, we rent our Yurts exclusively by the week with check in/out being on Saturdays. In April, May and late October we accept short term stays but request a 3 night minimum.

  • Our Tiny Houses are rented for 3 night minimums in the shoulder seasons and 4 nights during the peak months.

How many units do you have/how big is your property?

Acadia Yurts is proud to present 7 luxury yurts and 2 Tiny Houses, all located on one private 5 acres piece of property in Southwest Harbor Maine.

Are dogs allowed?

YES! We have 2 designated yurts (Flying & Sargent) reserved for dog owners. These are available on a first come, first served basis. Other yurts are NOT permitted to have dogs in them for allergen purposed.

Are you open all year?

Like most other vacation rental businesses on MDI, our yurts are open seasonally (Wellness Center open YEAR ROUND). The yurts typically open in late April and close in late October.

How do I book?

Click HERE to chose your unit. Once you’ve decided on your unit, click the “Book Now” button underneath your unit and you will be redirected to HomeAway/VRBO. For new guests we book them exclusively through VRBO. For repeat guests we can accept private bookings.

How do I check in?

We utilize a “Self Check In” process. About a week prior to your arrival, we'll send you an electronic check in packet with driving directions, site map and key code information. Once you arrive at Acadia Yurts, use the included Site Map to find your unit and let yourself in! You may check in anytime after 4pm and don’t worry about a late arrival, just let us know any we’ll leave your unit unlocked with a light on! If you have any trouble, owners Aaron & Karen live right next door and can help with any questions you might have.

How far is Acadia National Park from Acadia Yurts?

Acadia National Park encompasses much of Mount Desert Island and while there are several “Main Entrances”, there are so many different ways to access the park. Within a 5 minute drive from Acadia Yurts you can access the Long Pond Boat Launch, Echo Lake Beach, Dysarts Great Harbor Marina as well as Flying, Mansell, Beech, Acadia and St Saveuer Mountains! You may find hiking trails and carriage roads on the Western side of MDI are less populated than those near Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor is about 15 miles from Acadia Yurts.

Do I need a PASS to get into Acadia National Park?

Is there a place to have a campfire?

YES! We have a communal fire pit located in front of the Wellness Center (near the parking area) for guest use. It is first come, first served and a great place to meet other yurt guests. Each unit does NOT have its own firepit due to the fabric walls of the yurts. We do not sell firewood on our property but there are several roadside stands on your way to Acadia Yurts. Please pick up after yourselves and douse all fires before heading in for the night.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • 100% refund 30 days before check-in

  • 50% refund 14-29 days before check-in

  • 0% refund 13 days or less before check-in

  • Lessees must cancel in writing by 11:59pm on the cut-off day before check-in to receive a refund.  All times are specific to EST.
